Comments about the ALiCE strategy and concepts:

I agree with Response Options and what they taught me which was to distract the killer by throwing something and (if necessary) charging at him along with other students. Kevin, 15

It feels good to know we could do something to save ourselves, not just wait in a corner to see what happens next. Sarah, 12

I am a Freshman at Burleson High School and at Fish Camp (a course for incoming freshmen) they told us how to defend ourselves. I'm happy I was told how to defend myself. Mitch, 15.

"Having been through this training as a teacher, I can and will attest to its effectiveness. Yes, it is a different mindset, but how far will a parent go to protect their child? This training took us out of our comfort zones. As a teacher, who is acting in loco parentis, how far will I go to protect your child? As far as I have to, as if they were my own." Karen, Teacher

"I am a nurse and saw your video on Fox News!! I believe that preparation and rehearsal are key to fighting against violence in school. This program appears to empower young people to be proactive versus reactive. I remember being a kid and doing fire drills, and knowing exactly what to do in the event of a fire. As a nurse I have trained in emergency situations; medical and violent alike and having that training is a true confident feeling. Thank you for providing this service; my children are in grade school and soon entering middle school...." Lainie Hill, Parent

"I caught the tail end of your demonstration on Fox News "Fox and Friends" morning show. I was impressed. I'm so glad to see a response that empowers our kids instead of making them easy targets". Kathleen Coles, Parent

"As a dispatcher for EMS and Fire Department I watched your demonstration on Fox News this morning with great interest. This is a trying time for everyone to have to think of your children's safety in school. But the time is here before us at this time. I believe that your program is great. After all our best defense is to be prepared." Judy Hillis, Parent

"I have worked in the youth ministry of my local church for nearly 20 years and each year these threats become more real to me. I have been through training personally, but after seeing the training scenario on FOX news, I realized that have just one person trained is not nearly enough. Thank You." Rev. Lee Statzer, Pastor

"In the community where I work, the school is K-12 and with the recent events parents and school staff are on edge. We have an operations plan, and I like the plan that you have as well." Jim Leach, Police Chief

"This is what I have been preaching to our schools for years! You rock, keep up the good work!!!!! You actually did something about it! Way to go!" Shepard Humphries, Business Owner

"In the City of Burleson, teachers are taking a September 11th approach to safety. The Burleson Independent School District is training its teachers to fight back if a gunman walks into a classroom." Jay Gormley, CBS News

"I have tears in my eyes reading this because I have a 7 yr. old in school. I hate the thought that teaching unimaginable things like this would be necessary, but are in fact happening too often in our schools. As much as I hate to even type the words or think the thoughts, I would rather my child die fighting to survive, rather than waiting to die. I hate the thought that this is possible at all." Kim, Parent

"I think this is a great program...its all about practicing this and putting it into motion when in fact this rare incident might happen. I commend you on this program and hopefully other school districts across the country will do it as well." Gretchen Carlson, Fox News

"I definitely think it's a good idea. I think it's good for teachers to know what to do in case of an emergency." Courtney Pelletier, Parent

"Stand up, fight or do something. Something is better than nothing." Adam Richards, Student

"It’s harder to hit a moving target than a target that is standing still." Jessica Justice, Response Options Student (14)

"I feel like our kids should be armed with the information that these types of possibilities exist." Stacy Vaughn, PTO President

"This is the best idea ever! Sometime back I talked to my 14 year old daughter about fighting back. Never go down without a fight! As strong as she is, I figure that 4, or 5, or an entire classroom full of kids can take down a gunman under the right circumstances. Due to living in the country my daughter has been trained in the safety and use of guns. She understands the implications of anyone with a gun in their hand pointing it at a person. I have enrolled her in a self-defense course so she can be better prepared in case of an emergency." Dianne, Parent

"As a high school student, I'd rather be shot from fighting back than just laying on the floor with my hands over my head. I totaly agree with teaching kids to defend themselves; I only wish that my school would teach that." Alex de Leon, Student
